Fabian Salas
Fabián Salas has been dancing and teaching Argentine Tango professionally
since 1987, and is deservedly regarded as one of the best talents of the
new generation of Tango dancers, teachers, and choreographers. Early in
his career, Fabián worked in numerous stage shows in Argentina,
the most notable of which was the stage production “El Patio de la Morocha”
at the prestigious theater “Teatro Municipal General San Martin” in Buenos
Aires (1993–94). Later in 1994, Fabián Salas became a member of
the original cast and assisted in creating dance choreography in the stage
show “GOTAN” (starring legendary dancer Juan Carlos Copes). In 1996, Fabián
took part as a Tango dancer in the production of the movie “Evita.” Later
that same year, Fabián became one of the three top male tango dancers
(with Pablo Veron and Gustavo Naveira) in Argentina to choreograph and
perform dance numbers in the “The Tango Lesson.” Fabián has been
travelling throughout the US, Europe and South America and teaching the
growing number of his followers the art of dancing the Argentine Tango.

Workshop Descriptions/Suggested Combinations
The weekend is designed to provide material for beginning as well as advanced
dancers. Here are some recommendations from Fabian:
-
A1-A2 (Fundamentals and Technique). Presents the structure
and fundamentals principles of the dance and sets the foundation for the
entire weekend. Fabian recommends that all dancers, including advanced
dancers, take these classes to get the most out of the weekend, as there
will be important material for all. Open to all.
-
A3, B1 (Intermediate). Lead and follow techniques, Turns
and their structure, walking steps. Exercises that move around the floor
and are adaptable to be directly useful on the dance floor. Previous Argentine
Tango experience or attendance at A1-A2 strongly recommended.
-
B2-B3 (Advanced). Walking codes. Breaking (alteration) of
codes and changes of direction. This material is suitable for the more
advanced dancers who are already experienced with the Argentine Tango.
Much of this material will be new to most.

Directions and Parking
The VFW Mt. Auburn Post is at corner of Huron Av and Cushing St, near the
Belmont line. (Look for a “rocket” outside the building.) Free limited
parking in lot behind building.
-
From Memorial Drive, Cambridge: Proceed West and turn right
onto Fresh Pond Parkway (direction Arlington). Stay to the left and turn
left at the first light onto Mt. Auburn Street. Right at first light onto
Aberdeen St. Left at end of Aberdeen onto Huron Av. VFW is about 0.5 mile
on the left.
-
From Alewife Brook Parkway (Route 16W): Alewife will turn
into Fresh Pond Parkway (still Route 16). Follow Route 16 signs and it
will turn you right onto Huron Av. Route 16 will then turn left again at
the next light, but continue straight on Huron Av. VFW is about 0.5 mile
on left.
-
By MBTA (Bus): Your best bet is probably Route 72 from Harvard
Square, which takes you to the corner of Huron & Aberdeen, from where
it’s a 5-minute walk continuing on Huron. Alternatively, routes 71 and
73 from Harvard Square take you up to the corner of Mt. Auburn St and Aberdeen.
Walk up Aberdeen and turn left on Huron (10-minute walk).
